Just recently, Florida Realtors announced the 2022 winner of the Environmental (ENVY) Award: SweetBay! The award honors a residential development that utilizes green practices and environmentally-friendly features designed with Florida’s natural landscape in mind, and SweetBay is beyond proud to call itself an ENVY winner. Janet Melton, SweetBay’s own Realty Broker, accepted the award during the ceremony.
The SweetBay journey began in 2007 when St. Andrew Bay Land Company purchased Panama City’s original airport. Located on the turquoise coastal waters of St. Andrew Bay, developers transformed these 700+ acres into Florida’s largest adaptive reuse and infill development. And SweetBay was born!
Bordered by more than five miles of pristine bayfront waterways, SweetBay is a walkable neighborhood with lush shared community spaces, parks, and bayside trails. Much thought and attention to preservation went into SweetBay’s planning and development, which shines through in the beautifully maintained natural areas.
Additionally, we have planted over 1,500 native trees on the property, working to revitalize the natural environment. What was once a vacant commercial site is now a thriving conservation area with abounding wildlife and lush native habitat. From bay-bordering seagrasses to bayou swamps, SweetBay is dedicated to preserving Florida’s natural beauty. In fact, during development, developers identified a rare Panama City Crayfish species on-site. Since then, we’ve designated a specially-designed habitat to preserve the species.
Once SweetBay’s development is completed, nearly one-quarter of our acreage will consist of green space, conservation areas, canopied parks and wetland preserves. Now that’s what we call the sweet life! We appreciate Florida Realtors recognizing the thoughtful work that went into making SweetBay the environmentally-friendly place it is today.
